I have for the first time seen a problem with cyano, I have previously seen very small patches of cyano but now i have quite some of it.
The change is that i have for some weeks now just been using TMG+ at normal recommended concentration but this definitely don’t seem to be fulfilling for my aquarium.
Today I made a normal water change and made new mixtures of nutrition for my autodosing, hope this helps fix the problem.

Since I had the impeller break down I have been thinking of buying a new filter, well actually I have been thinking of it since Eheim announced their Pro3e series.
The Pro3e series latest addition (the smallest one) is a filter with a USB connection which is an interesting thing, but according to what I have been able to find about it is that it is only for managing the settings because people has been saying that it’s to hard, and though this is the correct filter according to the spec for my aquarium I usually likes to have an oversized filter.
At this point I’m interested in the largest one by a number of reasons, the only negative thing is that it does not fit my cabinet, but i thought it should be possible to lower the bottom of the cabinet on the filter area, it should work.
One interesting feature of these filters is that it regulates the flow over time to keep the preset level as long as you don’t reach the top level, but if you have a big over sized pump then there is a lot of adjustment enabled, and this function should work great.
The filters in the Pro3e series also has a lot more interesting and funny stuff included check them out on their web site eheim .com.
Hmmmm, lets see.

During the last months I have thought that the flow has not been as good as I use to be, even though I rinsed the filter it still did not result in a “normal” flow, and also I think the pump has been a bit more noisy than normal.
A few days ago the filter stopped al of a sudden, I thought it might had gotten to warm as it had sucked in air from my surface skimmer, and all of a sudden it started again and I thought there were a heat fuse or similar.
Later it stopped again and this time it did not start again and even though I waited all night it still did not start.
When I took the filter apart I found that the magnet for the impeller was broken in two, and were pressing against the sides of the pump housing, I managed to push the pieces together again and the pump started up but with a slightly high hum.
Yesterday I managed to find a shop who had a new impeller in stock, the impeller is exchanged and the pump is now running as good as new.
The bottom line is that you should be careful with air / gases entering the pump as it is a risk that the magnet is damaged when it rattles and banging in the housing, this is an unnecessary cost and a risk for the fishes.

Just before the summer vacation I bought four quite big clown loaches, about 90mm long.
They seem to like their new home, I also had two zebra loaches (botia striata) from before, they seem to have found their new place right in to the big loaches family, they get a long and interact without any issues regarding that they are different species.

Well, the fish at the shop was all dead now, but they acted very much excellent when I told my problems and they gave me a money back receipt. They did not have any new of the same sort but they were ok with ordering some for me.
I think this is very much a very good behavior by a shop.

A few days ago i was at the store where i bought my Threadfin Rainbowfish to check if they still had some for me to buy, now the interesting part, the aquarium where they were in, were not in a good condition, there were several dead fish and the ones still alive did not look too good, looked like a fungus attack or something like that.
This makes me wonder if i just pushed them over the edge by cleaning, but that they probably already were infected and in a non good shape.

This is a picture of how the aquarium looks at the moment.
I have cleaned the gravel by siphoning out bit by bit cleaning it and replace it. unfortunatly some of the fish did not like it, 11 of my Threadfin Rainbowfish past away and also 4 of my cardinal tetras, so this is not a recomended method.
